Shani Rhys James – ‘Florilingua’, Hay Festival

As part of this year’s Hay Festival Shani Rhys James will be joined by a group of poets who will read work in response to her most recent paintings and touring exhibition ‘Florilingua’. The event will take place on Wednesday 28th May at 8:30pm.

Running over the course of 10 days, from 22nd May – 1st June, Hay Festival is now in its 27th year. Set in a small market town alongside the Black Mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park, it is a magical setting for Britain's foremost festival of literature and the arts.

As part of ‘Florilingua’ Carol Ann Duffy, Gillian Clarke and Francesca Rhydderch will read poetry that responds to the opulent wallpapers and elaborate chandeliers of Rhys James’ art. The event promises to create a compelling dialogue between paint and word on issues of domesticity, the relationship of women and home and what the places in which we live say about us.
