Shani Rhys James - Welsh Academy of Art Debate, Hay Festival
Shani Rhys James will be taking part in an exciting debate hosted by the Welsh Academy of Art at the renowned Hay Festival on Wednesday 28th May at 5:30pm.
Running over the course of 10 days, from 22nd May – 1st June, Hay is now in its 27th year. Set in a small market town alongside the Black Mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park, it is a magical setting for Britain's foremost festival of literature and the arts.
Chaired by BBC Arts Editor Will Gompertz, the Welsh Academy of Art will present a debate on the state of contemporary art and art education. It will question whether contemporary art celebrates concept without skill and the value of a Fine Art degree today. Shani Rhys James will join the discussion alongside other high profile guests and academics in the field, including Julia Peyton-Jones (Director of the Serpentine Gallery), Roger Scruton (Professor of Aesthetics at Oxford University) and the critic, author and artist William Packer.
