Biography

Jonathan Field originally studied Illustration at Manchester Art College, following which he worked for 15 years as an artist and freelance illustrator across the fields of advertising, publishing and design, with the likes of Penguin Books and Mitchell Beazley. However, between 1995 and 1999 he rediscovered his love of three dimensional forms and began to design and make furniture, selling his work through design shops such as Heal's and Conran.

Jonathan now only makes original and bespoke pieces of furniture from carefully selected pieces of timber. He is strongly influenced by his childhood in East Yorkshire, with its flat, open and textured landscapes, coastal areas with sparse horizontal lines of dykes and wind blasted trees, and large expanses of sky. When designing and making each piece, he translates the wood's natural beauty and presence into furniture that has a sculptural and tactile quality.

Each unique piece of furniture is made by hand and initialled with JF.
